The stage is set for Barcelona to celebrate their 25th La Liga crown this weekend as the Catalans face Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday aiming to claim a domestic double in just a week’s time.

Deportivo La Coruna

With both Las Palmas and Malaga already relegated from the Spanish top flight, Deportivo La Coruna have launched a late bid to avoid such a faith. Heading into the 35th match of the season off the back of a four-match unbeaten run, Clarence Seedorf’s team is facing a dangerous prospect.

The legendary Dutchman is likely to fall short in his efforts to save Deportivo La Coruna from a drop, knowing that his team sits nine points adrift of safety. For Depor to remain in the frame for La L…

Prediction: Real Madrid vs Celta de Vigo

Prediction: Real Madrid to win 2-1

Best Odds:

Bookmaker:

Real Madrid and Celta de Vigo will face each other in La Liga this weekend. The match at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano is slated to kick off at 8pm UK time on Saturday.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid will head into the match against Celta on the back of a 1-1 draw wit Elche away from home in La Liga. Elche are in danger of going down to the Segunda Division at the end of the season, and defending Spanish champions Madrid were expected to win. However, Zinedine Zidane’s side were lacklustre and probably did not deserve all three points from the encounter.

Madrid are second in the La Liga table at the moment with 33 points from 16 matches. Los Blancos are two points behind leaders and city rival…

Does Jonjo Shelvey Deserve England World Cup Berth?

Newcastle United dropped the curtain on a difficult Premier League season with a compelling 3-0 victory over the 2016/17 champions Chelsea who are disappointingly left without the Champions League spot this year.

Without support from owner Mike Ashley in the transfer window and overall financial department, the 58-year-old Rafa Benitez did wonders with the talent he had at disposal to beat the odds and finish the season in 10th place.

The Magpies found themselves just three points behind Leicester City and five adrift of Everton, who spent lavishly during the summer transfer window.

The 3-0 victory over Chelsea came as a cherry on top of a sour cake for Magpies, who will be looking for a promised upgrade this summer. In the meantime, the Newcastle United support…

Van der Vaart´s Midtjylland nightmare set to end

Rafael van der Vaart s torrid spell at FC Midtjylland is set to come to an end after he played fewer than 10 minutes for the Danish side this season.

The former Netherlands international joined the club in August 2016 from Real Betis, but was largely restricted to substitute appearances in his first season.

He has not fared any better in his second campaign, failing to reach 10 minutes of action across two appearances.

Midtjylland can win the Superliga title with a win over Horsens on Monday and Van der Vaart believes their failure to build the team around him is the reason that his time in Denmark has not been a success.

He told newspaper Herning Folkeblad: It hasn t worked out as I expected.

When you have a player like me, you have to think…

CSL Review: Beijing spoil Evergrande party, Shenxin ensure safety

Beijing Guoan took the Chinese Super League title race to the final day with a 1-0 win over 10-man Guangzhou Evergrande on Sunday.

Marcello Lippi s defending champions simply needed to avoid defeat at the Tianhe Stadium to ensure a fourth consecutive top-flight title having previously lost only three times in the league this term.

However, second-place Beijing kept alive their slim hopes of winning the league thanks to Shao Jiayi s late winner.

Lippi s men remained on course to clinch the CSL even after Sun Xiang s dismissal early in the second half but were undone by Jiayi s effort two minutes from time.

It was Beijing s first win over Guangzhou since November 2012 and Gregorio Manzano s side can usurp the holders in next week s final round of fixtures p…

Wilshere set for Arsenal stay

Jack Wilshere is ready to put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with Arsenal, according to the Mirror.

The twenty-six-year old’s future has been in the subject of much speculation in recent months with Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers both keen on securing his services.

French champions Paris Saint Germain also threw their hat into the ring recently though the midfielder looks set to remain at the Emirates Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Wilshere played thirty-eight times for the Gunners in all competitions during the 2017/18 campaign, scoring two goals.

However, despite an impressive spell over at the turn of the year overall his form was inconsistent and saw him be omitted from Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s World Cup f…

It will be really difficult – Klopp concerned over Mane´s lack of rest

Jurgen Klopp is wary of Sadio Mane s lack of rest heading into the new season, with the Liverpool star s campaign yet to come to an end.

On the back of a gruelling 2018-19 campaign, Premier League Golden Boot joint-winner Mane has scored three goals to help Senegal to the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Friday s showdown with Algeria in Cairo ends a season which has lasted close to 12 months for the 27-year-old, who also featured for his nation at the 2018 World Cup.

Liverpool s season starts on August 4 with the Community Shield clash against Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley.

Newly promoted Norwich City then travel to Anfield on August 9, in the opening Premier League fixture of 2019-20.

And Klopp acknowledged his concern over Ma…

Arsenal face Liverpool in League Cup

Arsenal will face Liverpool in the League Cup fourth round s glamour tie, while holders Manchester United travel to Championship club Barnsley.

Arsene Wenger s latest crop of young starlets are certain to be on show against the Reds at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, new Barnsley boss Mark Robins, a former Manchester United striker, will take on his old club at Oakwell hoping the Tyles can replicate their FA Cup run of 2008 when they knocked out two of the Premier League s big four in the shape of Liverpool and Chelsea.

There are four other all Premier League meetings, with Chelsea hosting Bolton, Aston Villa visiting Sunderland, Portsmouth ente…

British football’s richest revealed – Poor old Roman on his way down

The excellent FourFour Two magazine has published a list of the top one hundred richest people in British football. Nobody will be surprised to see Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan topping the list, but overall the list does make for interesting reading.

In the recent past the richest individual in British football has been Roman Abramovich, but the Chelsea owner is believed to have lost over £3 billion during the current economic problems and has fallen to third place.

Whilst the thirty-eight year old Sheikh has a personal fortune now thought to be more than double that of Abramovich, he will be keeping an eye on those at Championship club Queens Park Rangers. Second on list is Lakshmi Mittal and his fami…

Bolton sign Heskey on short-term deal

Bolton Wanderers have signed former England international Emile Heskey on a short term deal, according to the Mirror.

The 36 year old had been with Newcastle Jets in Australia’s A-League for the past two years, after spending eighteen years as a professional in England, where he played for Leicester City, Liverpool, Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa.

In total he has racked up almost six-hundred club games, scoring one hundred and sixty-one goals while internationally he won sixty-two caps for England, netting seven times.

Bolton, who dropped back down to the second tier in 2012, currently sit in sixteenth place in the Championship and are struggling in forward positions with Max Clayton and Joe Mason both set for long spells on the side-lines …
